Mark Gibney is the Carol Belk Distinguished Professor at the University of North Carolina-Asheville and the inaugural Raoul Wallenberg Visiting Chair at the Faculty of Law at Lund University (Sweden) and the Raoul Wallenberg Institute, where he remains an Affiliated Scholar. He became director of the Political Terror Scale project in 1984 and served in this capactity until 2026. Mark remains the in his position as Chairman of the Boards (sic.) and continues to be actively involved in the production of the annual scores as well as the training of human coders.
